What is Merge?

A decision intelligence platform turning complex movement data into actionable network insight.

Merge is a transport intelligence platform developed by researchers at Adelaide University in partnership with the Bureau of Infrastructure and Transport Research Economics (BITRE), co-funded through iMOVE CRC, and powered by Transcality.

National freight planning in Australia has long operated in a structural data deficit: the benchmark ABS Road Freight Movements Survey has not been updated since 2014, while modern roadside counters capture current truck volumes without origin–destination (OD) context.

Merge directly bridges this gap. By fusing legacy survey economics with live traffic count data into a unified inference framework, Merge produces consistent, link-level freight flow estimates and corridor analytics across Australia—giving infrastructure planners and policymakers the continuous evidence base needed for multi-billion-dollar network decisions.

How Merge Works

Methods, context and application

  1. 01

    Methods

    Build the evidence

We fuse fragmented, passive data streams into unified origin–destination (OD) models that capture true network dynamics.

  2. 02

    Context

    Expose Evidence & Limits

Our technical analysis is shaped directly around policy and infrastructure priorities, built with full transparency on assumptions, data vintage, and confidence bounds.

  3. 03

    Application

    Make Complexity Legible

We translate complex quantitative pipelines into intuitive, high-performance spatial intelligence tools designed for practical planning and action.
